Elbit Systems Secures German Order for PULS Rocket Artillery Launchers

Germany’s federal parliament, the Bundestag, has approved approximately $68 million to purchase five rocket artillery launchers from Israel’s Elbit Systems. The military selected the equipment, known as PULS, short for Precise and Universal Launching System, over a competing proposal from Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall, Defense News reported.

A Federal Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that PULS was chosen to “enable further cooperation” between the German and Dutch armies. The Netherlands had previously bought the Elbit launchers, a contract that included an option for additional procurement that could be combined with the German order. The Elbit system allows user countries to select their own types of ammunition for integration into the launchers.

PULS Use in Europe

A partnership between Elbit and the German-French contractor KNDS presented the PULS offer to Germany. The collaboration, established during the London DSEI exhibition in September 2023, aims to develop EuroPULS, a next-generation rocket artillery launching system.

In July, Denmark conducted the first local test of its PULS rocket launcher system, marking a significant step in training Danish soldiers to incoproate the system into their missions, according to an Army Recognition report.

In November, Elbit announced that it received an order worth $355 million from an unnamed European country to supply PULS rocket launchers, rockets and Hermes 900 unmanned aircraft systems. Another PULS deal is in progress in Greece, with Athens scheduled to seek approval from a parliamentary committee for a purchase valued between $630 million and $735 million.
