Saab Partners With Thales, ST Engineering in Singapore Air Traffic Modernization Initiative

Swedish firm Saab has agreed to support the long-term development and modernization of Singapore’s Air Traffic Management infrastructure in collaboration with French defense contractor Thales and Singapore company ST Engineering.

The partnership will see Saab’s fully integrated automation and digital tower suite integrated into the Southeast Asian nation’s ATM system, improving all aspects of its air traffic operations, from en route to gate management.

“This initiative shows our joint industrial commitment to Singapore, and that we are working proactively to reduce time and implementation risks in the introduction of the next generation of ATM technologies in Singapore,” said Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions CEO Per Ahl.

Enhanced Situational Awareness

The three companies’ joint commitment was among the key MOUs signed at the Sweden-Singapore Royal Business Forum on Wednesday.

According to Saab, its i-DTS can operate in all types of visibility and weather conditions, offering enhanced visual situational awareness to any airport. The company also offers the option of delivering services to multiple airports.

Besides the Saab solution, the deal also covers Thales and ST Engineering installing their ATM technologies, with ST Engineering leading efforts to ensure the seamless integration of the latest technologies to improve air traffic control in the country.
