Poland OKs Apache Helicopter Acquisition Under $10B US Foreign Military Sales Deal

The Polish government has signed a letter of offer and acceptance formalizing its intent to acquire 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache combat helicopters under the United States’s Foreign Military Sales program. According to Bloomberg, the $10 billion agreement is a major military purchase by Warsaw.

Vince Logsdon, vice president of international business development at Boeing, said the company welcomed the Polish government’s decision. “The AH-64E Apache helicopters will strengthen Poland’s operational capability and interoperability with the U.S., NATO and allied nations. We look forward to delivering this unmatched capability,” the executive said in a press release Tuesday.

The U.S. defense contractor has been producing Apache attack helicopters in its facility in Mesa, Arizona, since 1984. The AH-64E is the latest iteration, offering the United States and its allies an affordable Modular Open Systems Architecture capability designed for multidomain operations.

The LOA follows offset agreements reached in early August between the Polish Ministry of National Defence and GE Aerospace and Boeing. Under the GE Aerospace deal, the U.S. aircraft engine manufacturer will ensure that the local workforce possesses essential capabilities to support the maintenance and repairs of all platforms powered by the GE T700/CT7 engine line, including the Apache, Sikorsky’s S-70i Black Hawk, and Leonardo’s AW149 and AW101 helicopters. The Boeing agreement covers helicopter maintenance and Apache maintenance training.
