Fluor, RoPower Nuclear Partner for Phase 2 of Romanian Small Modular Reactor Facility

Fluor is collaborating with RoPower Nuclear for Phase 2 of the front-end engineering and design work at a small modular reactor facility in Doicesti, Romania.

The partnership will focus on customizing a six-reactor SMR power plant with NuScale technology, which, according to European codes and standards, could produce up to 462 megawatts.

The two companies formalized their partnership with a contract signing ceremony during a Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation summit on Wednesday. Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja and U.S. Energy Secretary Jennnifer Granholm joined representatives from the two companies at the event. The collaboration comes after Fluor completed the initial phase of FEED work in late 2023.

Pierre Bechelany, president of Fluor’s liquefied and power business, said the company is excited to continue contributing to an effort to adopt the next generation of nuclear power. “When completed, this facility will be the first of its kind in Europe,” he said.
