Planet Labs has received a contract to supply an international customer with an advanced maritime domain awareness solution for vessel detection and monitoring. Under the agreement, the San Franciso-based company will work with partner SynMax to deliver its artificial intelligence-enhanced PlanetScope data to the client.
According to Planet, the unnamed defense customer also expanded its SkySat contract for high-resolution satellite data.
Planet CEO and co-founder Will Marshall pointed to the new order as highlighting the increased demand for PlanetScope’s scanning capabilities, which significantly support monitoring, detection and reporting. “This is part of an evolution towards the ability to scan and locate new threats across large areas, moving beyond prior methods that focused solely on gathering intelligence on known areas of interest,” he said.
The latest contract win follows a deal with Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific that the company sealed in March to provide satellite imagery. The imagery will be shared through SeaVision, a web-based platform used by the United States and its allies.
