Iceye has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to ensure that imagery captured in the region is not shared with hostile nations.
The Finnish company operates a synthetic aperture radar satellite constellation for Earth observation and provides the Ukrainian government with SAR satellite imaging data to aid its fight against Russian invasion.
“Iceye has been working closely with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine from Day 1 to support and help Ukraine in building space defense capabilities,” said the company’s CEO, Rafal Modrzewski.
According to Kyiv’s intelligence services, the SAR satellites have captured 4,173 images of Russian military facilities and aided Kyiv’s attack on over 1,500 Russian targets over the past several months.
Under the new memorandum, Iceye pledged that Ukraine imagery captured by its SAR satellites will only be used for the interest of the country’s national security and defense.
Kateryna Chernohorenko, Ukraine’s deputy minister of defense, thanked the company for its continued support of the Ukrainian people and said the partnership strengthens Kyiv’s intelligence work.
Meanwhile, Oleksandra Ustinova, head of Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commission on Arms, urged other satellite operators to follow Iceye’s lead and refuse to provide space data to Russia.
