Thales and Katim, an entity under Edge Group, have signed a letter of intent to explore the possibility of jointly developing software-defined radio technologies in the United Arab Emirates.
Under the agreement, signed during the recent Eurosatory defense and security show in Paris, Thales and Katim will collaborate on the development, manufacturing and maintenance of long-range, high-frequency radio communication solutions. The companies will also cooperate in promoting the products in the international market.
Katim CEO Didier Pagnoux described the Thales partnership as “a significant milestone for Edge,” highlighting global trust in the company’s communications technology. “By combining our expertise, we will develop sophisticated software-defined radio solutions that meet the rigorous demands of both domestic and international markets,” he said.
Christophe Salomon, Thales Secure Communications & Information Systems executive vice president, said the company is proud to work with Edge in seeking opportunities in radio communications solutions. “The partnership is fully aligned with the group’s development strategy in the UAE.”
In November, Thales and EPI, an Edge precision engineering unit providing services across UAE, agreed on potential collaboration in industrial parts procurement and related service offerings.
