Canadian Surface Combatant Warships to Use L3Harris’ Communications System; Anthony Nigara Quoted

L3Harris Technologies will supply Lockheed Martin Canada with the integrated communication system for the Royal Canadian Navy’s planned new warships. Lockheed Martin Canada and Irving Shipbuilding are leading a consortium tasked to build the vessels under Ottawa’s Canadian Surface Combatant program.

According to Anthony Nigara, maritime sector president at L3 Harris Technologies, the contract award validates the dependability of his company’s solutions and its trusted partnership with Lockheed Martin Canada.

“Our integrated communications system is a testament to our commitment to advancing technology and innovation, ensuring unparalleled reliability, effectiveness and seamless connectivity crucial for modern naval operations,” Nigara said.

The Canadian government is investing $345 million in the CSC program, which will build 15 warships as part of its National Shipbuilding Strategy, The Maritime Executive reported.

According to L3Harris, the first three CSC vessels will be delivered in 2027. The company said its integrated communication will enhance domain awareness, operating efficiency and safety aboard the RCN warships.

Devon Rodgers, Lockheed Martin’s director for Canada Programs, said the communication technology L3Harris is bringing into RCN provides “a secure and capable platform to ensure connectivity across the fleet.”
