The United States has approved the proposed sale of 360 missiles to Poland.
According to the Department of State, Warsaw requested to purchase Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile Extended Range units and related equipment. The proposed foreign military sale is estimated at $1.27 billion.
Northrop Grumman will serve as the principal contractor of the FMS.
The AARGM-ER air-to-ground missile is capable of detecting radio frequency emissions from an enemy radar and destroying surface-to-air missile systems. It is designed to be installed on fighter jets and other military aircraft.
Poland’s proposed FMS includes dummy air training missiles, GPS receivers, M-Code, software, and spare and repair parts.
The sale was approved after the State Department determined that the missiles would improve Poland’s capability to defend itself against current and future threats. The transaction also supports U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification to notify Congress of the possible FMS.
