US, Moldova Sign Deal to Bolster Cyber, Information Security Collaboration

The United States has signed an agreement with Moldova to strengthen the two countries’ partnership in cyber defense and information security.

Under a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. nonprofit Civilian Research and Development Foundation and Moldova’s Ministry of Energy, the two parties will step up their cybersecurity standards and promote the development and implementation of information data security systems.

The U.S. and Moldova will also boost their education and scientific collaboration, exchange statistical and analytical information, and educate the public and government officials on the latest information security developments, CRDF Global said.

According to Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, the memorandum will enable government agencies in Moldova to beef up their data protection measures and prevent potential cyberattacks. “In the context of the hybrid war which we face, it is necessary to strengthen the capacities of all state’s institutions,” he said at the signing ceremony on Thursday.

The collaborative effort will advance existing U.S. projects to equip Moldova with better cyber and information protection measures. In late 2023, the U.S. government conducted a workshop to train the country’s civil servants on enhancing cybersecurity, combating disinformation and developing public cyber defense policies.
