BAE Systems has secured a five-year contract worth $112.4 million from the UK Ministry of Defence for research and development of the British military’s wide area network.

Known as Trinity, the WAN program will replace Falcon, the British Army and Royal Air Force’s current communications network scheduled for retirement in 2026. The U.K .military’s local area subsystem will remain under Falcon to which BAE Systems is the incumbent service provider.

The Trinity contract calls for BAE Systems to lead several program partners including KBR, PA Consulting and L3Harris, with deliveries due starting in December 2025.

The contract has an extension option for a total of nine years to cover Trinity’s overall development and to ensure technical evolution continuously supports U.K. military requirements, BAE said.

The consortium partners will focus on making Trinity’s data communication nodes series resilient and able to function even if warfare damages some nodes.

The WAN’s military frontline connectivity will be designed for multi-domain capabilities, such as linking aircraft carriers, fighter jets, small reconnaissance drones, combat vehicles and military commands.

According to a report from defense news website Army Technology, BAE Systems’ contract will bring all of the U.K. armed forces’ assets into one coherent communication network. It likened Trinity to the U.S.’ Joint All-Domain Command and Control currently under development.
