Turkey to Supply Indonesia With New Fighter Jets

Turkey will supply Indonesia with new jets

Turkey will supply Indonesia with 48 KAAN fighter jets. The award, formalized at the Indo Defence 2025 exhibition on Wednesday with Indonesian and Turkish officials in attendance, is expected to expand Jakarta’s aerial defense capabilities.

Turkish Aerospace Industries’ KAAN is Turkey’s first fifth-generation aircraft, set to feature artificial intelligence-assisted avionics and network-enabled warfare capabilities. Turkish publication Daily Sabah said the first two jets will be powered by a General Electric engine, with later units to integrate indigenous Turkish engines.

According to Turkish Aerospace, the contract also includes a technology transfer, providing Jakarta and Istanbul an opportunity to share knowledge and support initiatives designed to develop local capabilities. It will also ensure that the Indonesian workforce can maintain the KAAN.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the agreement highlights the capability of Turkey’s defense contractors. “[The export deal] will bring prosperity to both Turkey and Indonesia,” he added.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his government’s intention to join the KAAN fighter jet program following bilateral talks with Erdogan during an April visit to Istanbul.
