The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has renewed and expanded its contract with Ovzon for satellite network services. The procurement, valued at about $105 million, includes an order of satellite mobile satellite terminals and corresponding customer support from the broadband telecommunications company. Ovzon said the deal has a two-year delivery timeframe starting in June.
Ovzon CEO Per Norén noted that the contract award is the company’s largest to date, affirming that Ovzon technology satisfies the operational requirements most critical to customers. “This order allows us to accelerate in scaling our company and become even more relevant in our key markets,” he said.
Mobile Satellite Terminals
Ovzon’s satcom as a service Hero, which relies on third-party satellite feed, is included in the order along with the company’s mobile satellite terminals for manned and unmanned missions. A third of the terminals are for immediate delivery, with the rest due in batches.
The order for satellite network services follows a contract announced in November 2024 for Ovzon to demonstrate the capability of its satcom systems and services to control unmanned ground vehicles at great distances. The test involved mobile satellite terminals and satcom services based on the Ovzon 3 geostationary satellite, which started commercial services in July.
Besides the FMV order, Ovzon has a teaming agreement with the Swedish Space Corp. to develop Sweden’s sovereign space and satellite capabilities. The collaboration aims to support the country and its regional allies in their strategic needs across air, land and maritime operations.
