Diehl Aviation Developing Advanced Avionics for FCAS

Florian Maier on Diehl Aerospace avionics for FCAS

Diehl Aerospace is developing an advanced integrated modular avionics platform to support the next-generation weapon system of the Future Combat Air System program. The company, a joint venture between the German Diehl Group and the French Thales Group, said the IMA is designed to provide pilots with real-time data for tactical decision-making, with artificial intelligence lending scenario-based support.

The aircraft’s next-generation weapon system, or NGWS, comprises the fighter, the remote carriers and their supporting assets, various components that need innovative avionics that Diehl plans to achieve with the IMA.

Catalyst for Aerospace Technologies

According to Florian Maier, Diehl Aerospace president and CEO, FCAS, besides serving as a foundation for European defense autonomy, serves as a “catalyst for future aerospace technologies.”

“At the heart of our contribution are high-performance avionics solutions that process vast volumes of mission data, apply AI to assist pilot decision-making and deliver mission-critical information — clearly, securely and in real time,” he said.

Diehl Aerospace is also sharing its distributed computing and services in the European Initiative for Collaborative Air Combat Standardization, a European Union framework with digital battlespace goals parallel with the objectives of FCAS.
