The U.S. Department of State has approved India’s proposed $131 million acquisition of Indo-Pacific maritime domain awareness capability and related equipment and services.
With Hawkeye 360 set to be the principal contractor, the potential foreign military sale will cover SeaVision software, technical assistance field team training, remote software and analytic support, access to SeaVision documentation, and other related logistics and program support.
SeaVision is a web-based software hosted by the U.S. Department of Transportation that provides maritime situational awareness, providing users vital information to improve maritime operations and increase maritime security.
According to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the State Department determined that the possible acquisition will help improve India’s maritime domain awareness, analytical capabilities and strategic posture, elevating the South Asian country’s military power against foreign adversaries. DSCA has notified the U.S. Congress of the possible sale.
New Delhi has been expanding its maritime capabilities in recent months. In December 2024, Kongsberg Maritime joined a group of vendors ready to support and supply the Indian Navy’s needs. The Norwegian company’s contract with Hindustan Shipyard involves delivering a range of replenishment and refueling equipment that would enable the replenishment of new fleet support ships.
