Representatives from 29 countries are participating in the Global Sentinel 2025 exercises hosted by U.S. Space Command at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California to strengthen and expand operational collaboration in space. The two-week event, which ends on Friday, also seeks to promote responsible activities in space, the U.S. Space Force said.

C2 for Real-World Scenarios

The event’s major program involves capstone modeling and simulation gameplay for over 250 participants logged on a GS-branded portal of the Space-Track.org website, replicating a Real-World Events online platform and other resources for unclassified space activities. Each participating country joins the Regional Space Operations Centers aligned for maintaining command and control across various space sensors. Global Sentinel activities include panel discussions, tours and workshops to enhance international partnerships.

In his welcome remarks to the GS25 participants, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Richard Zellmann, the Combined Joint Force Space Component Command’s deputy commander, stressed the value of the space situational and domain awareness expertise gathered in the event.

“Over the course of the next couple of weeks, you’re going to have the opportunity to run through 12 different threads, everywhere from a normal, standard launch all the way to direct ascent, satellite weapons and everything in between,” the general noted.

Newcomers to the Exercises

The GS25 participants include NATO delegates and new participants from Chile, Denmark and Greece. The three-day mid-planning conference for the event, hosted by the Brazilian Aerospace Operations Command in November, drew participants from 30 countries. The conference’s highlights include discussions on technical presentations for GS25 by France, Germany and Japan, which focused on building a safer space environment.

The GS event was first held in 2014 as a space situational awareness tabletop conference among seven countries. In the 2024 edition, GS gathered 246 participants from 25 countries.
