Redwire has opened a new office in Warsaw, reinforcing its commitment to Poland’s growing space sector.

Marcin Dobrowolski, Redwire’s newly appointed general manager for Poland, led Thursday’s opening ceremony. It brought together key figures from government and industry, including Redwire Chairman and CEO Peter Cannito, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Daniel Lawton and Polish Space Agency Vice President Marcin Mazur.

The launching event also featured a panel discussion on microgravity research, which Poland has been making notable contributions to recently, including the Ignis mission, the country’s first scientific project in the International Space Station.

“We are excited to expand our presence in Europe to support increased demand from international customers and build on our existing heritage and legacy in the region,” Cannito said. According to the chief executive, the Warsaw facility will be a hub for research and technology development, including work on critical systems such as the International Berthing and Docking Mechanism.

The regional office will also provide design, integration and testing support for the IBDM, which will enable autonomous docking for the International Habitat module on Gateway, the first space station around the moon. Future versions of the technology could also support low Earth orbit platforms and commercial space stations.

The Warsaw office opening follows Redwire’s recent initiatives in Europe. In March, Redwire’s Belgian subsidiary, Redwire Space NV, secured a contract from the European Space Agency to design a spacecraft for potential use in the Lightship Mars exploration program. Last year, the Jacksonville-based firm delivered the onboard computer system for ESA’s Hera mission, Europe’s first planetary defense initiative.
