U.S. commercial services provider Amentum is set to work with Norway on its national nuclear cleanup efforts. The Norsk Nukleær Dekommisjonering contract will see Amentum and its joint venture partner, Multiconsult Norge AS, oversee safety case management and training for the initiative.
The deal will see the Amentum-Multiconsult Norge JV develop a new methodology for robust and well-documented safety cases for new design and existing legacy nuclear facilities. It covers work at Norway’s national waste repository, the KLDRA, and two research sites at the Norwegian towns of Halden and Kjeller.
The joint venture has been collaborating with NND since 2022, working on an engineering and technical framework for a decommissioning strategy.
“We will bring our extensive global experience in nuclear safety analysis – spanning the entire lifecycle – to this project, with particular emphasis on assessing legacy facilities and supporting their decommissioning in line with advanced safety standards,” said Andy White, senior vice president of Amentum Energy and Environment International.
Amentum’s Norway deal comes after it secured a contract from the United Kingdom’s Sizewell C nuclear power station, acting as program and project management delivery partner.
