Lockheed Martin plans to start prototype builds of the SPY-7(V)2 radar in mid-2025 for Spain’s F-110 multi-mission frigate program. Production of the radar is earmarked for early 2026.
According to a company statement Monday, its radar parts suppliers, Escribano and Integral de Conexión y Montajes, have delivered more than 10,000 components for installation and integration on the radar system since the orders were placed in July. Lockheed said it has also expanded its team in Madrid to support in-country production and sustain capability build-up.
Global Supply Chain Boost
Chandra Marshall, Lockheed Martin’s vice president of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions, noted that the partnerships with Escribano and ICM boost the company’s ties with the Spanish industry and expand its global supply chain. Local expertise and capabilities enhance Lockheed Martin and the Spanish industry’s “ability to deliver high-quality, scalable and mission-ready systems to our customers,” she added.
In January, Lockheed Martin’s Aegis SCOMBA Integration Center in New Jersey, in collaboration with Navantia, Spain’s national shipbuilder, hosted a live-tracking demonstration of the radar for the Spanish F-110 frigate.
US Training for Indra Partner
Indra, another Spanish partner of Lockheed, sent leadership and engineering teams to the company’s Clearwater facility in Florida in March to train in the full assembly process for the SPY-7 radar’s sub-array suite power supplies.
After observing Lockheed’s test procedures, the teams also experienced hands-on testing and troubleshooting. Partners for more than 25 years, Lockheed and Indra collaborate on other projects, including work on Spain’s naval combat management systems and Aegis Combat System components.
