U.S. defense company L3Harris Technologies has secured a contract to deliver interoperable communication systems to improve the German armed forces’ operational capabilities. The deal forms part of multiple orders with an accumulated value of $214 million that benefits a program to digitalize the Bundeswehr’s land-based operations.

“We are proud to support our NATO ally with our trusted communications technology, which has demonstrated its value in the field by protecting soldiers and networks at the tactical edge,” said Samir Mehta, president of communication systems at L3Harris.

The order follows recent contract awards for L3Harris’ Falcon radios from the Netherlands and the United States. Its Falcon line of software-defined radios provides secure, reliable mission-critical voice, data and video functionality to ensure the highest level of command and control on the battlefield. The product is compatible with several legacy systems and waveforms.

In January, the U.S. Army awarded L3Harris nearly $300 million for full-rate Manpack and Leader radio production orders under the Handheld, Manpack & Small Form Fit program.
