Jacobs to Oversee Australia’s Electricity, Telecommunications Interconnector Project

Jacobs Patrick Hill Marinus Link

U.S. engineering, technical and construction services provider Jacobs is joining Australia’s Marinus Link energy project development. The Marinus Link is an undersea and underground high-voltage direct current electricity and data interconnector that would ensure a reliable supply for residents of Tasmania and Victoria.

The deal was formalized by an agreement signed by Marinus Link Pty Ltd interim CEO Collette Burke and Patrick Hill, president of global operations at Jacobs.

Jacobs will lead the construction and ongoing delivery of the first 750-megawatt stage as the project’s integrated delivery partner. The company will also oversee the technical engineering and construction packages while deploying infrastructure capable of handling HVDC cable.

“This Integrated Delivery Partnership will allow Jacobs to mobilize global experience in capital project execution, utility infrastructure enhancement and future energy demand planning to assure delivery for this critical asset,” Hill said.

Jointly owned by the federal government of Australia and the state governments of Tasmania and Victoria, Marinus Link aims to improve energy security and make electricity more affordable by tapping into low-cost renewable energy sources and expanding transmission and fiber capacity between the two states.

The energy project award follows Jacobs’ recent contract win to plan, design and provide engineering services for a 540,000-square-foot facility for quantum computing firm PsiQuantum in Brisbane, Queensland.
