The U.S. Department of State has approved the Netherlands’ potential $2.19 billion acquisition of Tomahawk cruise missiles. RTX will be the principal contractor of the possible sale.
The proposed Foreign Military Sales transaction covers the delivery of up to 163 Tomahawk Block V all-up rounds, 12 Tomahawk Block IV AURs, up to 10 Tactical Tomahawk weapons control systems and up to two Tomahawk Block IV telemetry missiles.
The Tomahawk missile is a precision weapon designed to be launched from ships, submarines and ground launchers. It is capable of striking objects, even when 1,000 miles away. The Block IV Tactical Tomahawk, the missile’s latest version, can switch targets while in flight due to its built-in data link.
The deal also includes several pieces of satellite communication equipment to support the operation of the missiles, including satellite data link terminals, integrated secure broadcast systems and communications security devices.
RTX is also expected to provide technical, programmatic, engineering and logistical support.
According to the Defense Security Cooperative Agency, the State Department determined that the potential acquisition aligns with the U.S. foreign policy and national security goals while supporting the Netherlands’ plans to improve its capabilities to respond to existing and future threats.
