ST Engineering Names New Group COO, Public Security President

ST Engineering Appoints Tan Wei Ming Mervyn as Group COO

ST Engineering has appointed Mervyn Tan Wei Ming as group chief operating officer (Technology & Innovation) and president of Defence & Public Security, effective June 1.

ST Engineering said Tan, formerly managing director for investment at venture capital firm Vertex Holdings, will succeed Ravinder Singh, who retires on May 31 after over a decade of service.

According to ST Engineering Group President and CEO Vincent Chong, Tan, who will also be appointed to the group executive committee, will bring expertise in the defense and public security sectors and help strengthen the company’s senior management team to achieve strategic objectives and implement growth plans.

At Vertex, the executive was responsible for investing in startups offering technologies related to artificial intelligence, quantum technology and other breakthrough technologies.

Before joining the venture capital firm, he held various senior roles at Singapore’s Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces, including chief executive of the Defence Science and Technology Agency, deputy secretary for technology, and chief of command, control, communications, computers and intelligence.

Once Tan assumes his new position, Singh will transition to an advisory role. Accorrding to the company, as the group COO, Singh played a role in shaping ST Engineering’s defense and public security segment, leading to an increase in revenue, a stronger position as a strategic partner to Singapore’s Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs, and the expansion into new markets in Europe and the Middle East.
