The Dutch Ministry of Defence has ordered 150 of Oshkosh Defense’s Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV, for the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. The Wisconsin-based defense contractor said it will fill the order for the DXPVs, short for Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles, in partnership with its sister unit, Oshkosh Defense Europe.
The DXPVs are designed to meet the Netherlands’ military requirement for a future littoral all-terrain mobility patrol vehicle. According to Oshkosh Defense, the tactical vehicles will provide the Dutch Marines with advanced capabilities in off-road operations, speed and transportability. The company also noted the DXPV’s advantage in interoperability during Dutch military missions with NATO countries. Oshkosh Defense is the only original equipment manufacturer supplying JLTVs to U.S. allies.
Wide Deployment
Pat Williams, Oshkosh Defense chief programs officer, pointed out that the DXPV has “highly common” features with the 22,000 JLTVs delivered to the U.S. Department of Defense and the 1,600 other vehicles the company has produced for NATO and allied countries.
“This high level of commonality not only significantly reduces the logistics footprint required to support and sustain the DXPV, but also ensures exceptional system performance, maximizes operational readiness and enhances interoperability,” he said. “It enables our customers to leverage an established supply chain, streamline training and simplify integration, driving greater efficiency and mission success across the board.”
High JLTV Demand
The Netherlands’ DXPV purchase is the latest in a series of procurements for the JLTV platform. Munira Tourner, product manager for systems integration at the U.S. Army’s Joint Program Office for Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, previously noted the increasing JLTV demand worldwide. Her office facilitated the sale of 1,200 vehicles to nine countries in fiscal year 2024.
