Lithuania and Latvia’s defense ministries have signed a $24.3 million procurement contract for Marine Alutech Oy Ab-made multipurpose attack vessels. The award also covers boosting local capabilities and securing the defense supply chain.
The transaction will see the Lithuanian Navy receive two advanced multi-role jet attack craft fitted with SPIKE NLOS missile launchers and remote heavy machine-gun systems. The new vessels, with their unique build and propulsion system, are expected to protect the Baltic nation against threats from the Gulf of Finland to the Curonian Lagoon.
“This contract is an excellent example of small countries building a stronger and more effective defense through cooperation, thus contributing to stability and security in the entire Baltic region,” said Lithuanian National Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene.
The deal is part of a technical arrangement signed by Lithuania, Latvia and Finland in 2024, a research and development initiative to enhance regional defense capabilities.
In January, Vilnius boosted the capabilities of its armed forces by acquiring United States-made defense equipment, including L3Harris Technologies manpack radios and small AeroVironment drones.
Sakaliene also confirmed in March Lithuania’s continued commitment to honoring its U.S. partnerships, assuring executives from Northrop Grumman, RTX, and Lockheed Martin that her government plans to upgrade its capabilities amid increasing threats to national security.
