Comtech Delivers Next-Gen VSAT Systems to Asia-Pacific Navy

Comtech Telecommunications said it has delivered the first next-generation very small aperture terminal systems to a key naval ally in the Asia-Pacific region.

The equipment developed by Montreal-based Comtech Satellite Networks Technologies is part of the APAC customer’s large-scale naval modernization program. According to Comtech, the systems are being installed on naval ships, submarines and land-based stations, providing essential multi-orbit satellite communications across maritime, aerial and ground domains.

The systems are powered by Comtech’s ELEVATE platform, a software-defined, multi-orbit VSAT solution that includes mesh networking, spread spectrum transmission and Internet Protocol traffic optimization technologies. After intensive testing and validation, the customer has approved full-rate production of the systems, with deliveries expected to continue in the next two years.

Daniel Gizinski, president of Comtech’s satellite and space communications segment, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting its customer’s operational requirements. “This important milestone builds on the trust we have established with a key military ally in the APAC region and further illustrates Comtech’s global leadership in next-generation VSAT systems,” he said.

Earlier this year, Comtech launched its ELEVATE 2.0 platform, designed to provide global connectivity across various satellite orbits using a single, compact platform. The telecom firm also unveiled its new multipath radio platform capable of high-data-rate, over-the-horizon communications for military and commercial operators.
