Teledyne FLIR Defense has received a $7.8 million contract from Saudi Arabia’s Middle East Task Company to deliver a lightweight vehicle surveillance system to a military customer in the country. The award also covers mission support equipment and training support.
FLIR Defense’s LVSS platform is a next-generation surveillance solution designed to keep military bases, infrastructure and personnel safe from a wide range of air- and ground-based threats. It is also suited for missions that require flexibility, mobility and speed.
The surveillance system uses a converted pickup truck as a deployable command and control center fully equipped with the TacFLIR 380HD long-range thermal imaging system and the Ranger R20SS radar. With the fitted technology, LVSS could track up to 500 objects at the same time at ranges greater than 10 miles.
Stan Crawford, senior director of business development for the Middle East at Teledyne FLIR Defense, said the company has consolidated the technologies it has developed through the years into LVSS.
“We’re honored to work with METCO in supporting a key military entity in its critical mission of safeguarding the nation,” he said. According to the official, the platform has assisted its clients around the world in securing borders, critical infrastructure and coastal zones.
Besides providing surveillance technologies, Teledyne FLIR Defense also provides unmanned systems that could help improve situational awareness. In late February, the Teledyne Technologies company secured a contract to supply Germany with its Black Hornet 4 personal reconnaissance systems. Teledyne FLIR said the drones provide German soldiers a solution that could be deployed within seconds in areas without GPS coverage.
