The Singapore Armed Forces’ Digital and Intelligence Service will gain access to the Oracle Cloud Isolated Region under an agreement between Oracle and the Defence Science and Technology Agency.
In a statement announcing the agreement on Tuesday, Oracle said using the Oracle facility’s secure environment will enable the modernization of SAF’s digital capabilities, including the acceleration of artificial intelligence deployment in military missions.
Secure Cloud Platform
The air-gapped Oracle Cloud Isolated Region operates outside the internet and offers services also available in public Oracle Cloud Infrastructure regions. Oracle said the isolated cloud environment offers a scalable, secure and resilient platform enabling sharper insights and faster decision-making for a transformation in SAF’s capabilities in command, control, communications and computers.
Rand Waldron, Oracle’s Global Defense chief technology officer, noted that the company will support Singapore’s defense missions through the combined capabilities of its public cloud and defense ecosystem. “Oracle is built to deliver the highest levels of security and performance for governments around the world,” he added.
Optimized Workloads
One such service, the Oracle Cloud for Australian Government and Defense, was launched in August 2023 to provide over 100 services for customers to build and run cloud-hosted applications. The new region’s design enables cloud users to access services and applications, as well as integrated security capabilities to harness data and optimize workloads.
The DTSA agreement follows Oracle’s announcement last week that it is establishing an Oracle AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore to accelerate the technology’s adoption and innovation across Southeast Asia. According to the company, the new facility will feature the latest cloud and AI technologies for a digital and physical environment, enabling organizations to train, experiment and transform business operations.
