ICEYE Partners With Saab to Integrate Space-Based Radar on C2 Solution

Finnish synthetic aperture radar satellite manufacturer ICEYE and Swedish aerospace company Saab have agreed to develop and integrate advanced space-based radar data on Saab’s command and control systems.

According to a statement from ICEYE released Wednesday, the cooperation will explore the integrated solution’s impact on multi-domain operations, particularly on advanced space situational awareness and critical infrastructure protection capabilities.

ICEYE co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer Pekka Laurila said the collaboration would combine his company’s SAR technology and Saab’s C2 expertise to enhance situational awareness. ICEYE offers capabilities in enhanced situational awareness, long-range targeting and improved tactical decision-making.

“It is crucial to remain one step ahead and effective situational awareness is a key tenet of this,” the executive said. “[The collaboration will] look at new and improved ways to maintain the advantage … leading to better surveillance and protection,” he added.

The Finnish company’s new work with Saab aligns with recent collaborations to advance technologies. In December, ICEYE formed a joint venture with Space42 to open a facility in Abu Dhabi dedicated to assembling, integrating and testing SAR satellites. In November, it partnered with the Finnish Ministry of Defence to lead a consortium to develop advanced space and joint intelligence capabilities.
