GE Aerospace Wins $5B USAF Contract on Aircraft Engine Supply to Allies

The U.S. Air Force has awarded GE Aerospace a Foreign Military Sales contract worth a potential $5 billion to deliver F110-GE-129 engines for allies’ F-15 and F-16 fleet. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covers FMS to Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bulgaria and other potential buyers with letters of offer and acceptance, according to the Pentagon’s daily brief of contract awards.

Amy Gowder, president and CEO of Defense and Systems at GE Aerospace, said the company securing the USAF contract solidifies the engine as a mainstay choice for F-15 and F-16 fleets globally. “This contract underscores the enduring trust in the F110’s performance, reliability and value for our customers and their critical missions,” she added.

The contract calls for close collaboration with the USAF in the delivery of engines, spares and associated services.

According to the Department of Defense, the contract extends over five years, with expected completion on Dec. 31, 2030. Work will be performed in Cincinnati, Ohio, and San Antonio, Texas, with FMS funding of about $41.7 million obligated at the time of award. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio initiated the contracting activity.

The F110 engine, which has logged more than 11 million flight hours, recently marked a milestone of 40 years of continuous production and upgrade. Squadrons in 17 countries fly F110-powered aircraft, according to the GE Aerospace website.
