Canadian IT and business consulting services CGI has received Level 2 certification from the Institut du Numérique Responsable for its sustainable IT operations in France, Luxembourg, Morocco, Romania and Switzerland. The achievement makes CGI the first digital services firm with over 5,000 employees to reach the milestone, following its Level 1 certification obtained in 2022.
The Sustainable IT label, developed by INR alongside French government agencies and the World Wildlife Fund, recognizes companies committed to ethical and ecologically responsible digital practices. It assesses efforts to reduce environmental impact and promote positive societal contributions.
The audit, carried out by the advisory firm Baker Tilly, assessed CGI’s interactions with employees and customers, relationships with suppliers and partners, and practices in other areas. The evaluation covered 52 criteria across five key areas, including strategy and governance and the life cycle of digital services.
Based on the audit, CGI developed a three-year plan prioritizing responsible design in its customer service offerings. Additionally, the company said it is embracing responsible AI standards and will closely track the environmental impact of its projects.
Caroline de Grandmaison, president for France and Luxembourg at CGI, said the Level 2 certification shows CGI’s commitment to responsible digital technology. The executive highlighted initiatives such as training 9,000 employees in eco-design and collaborating with clients on environmentally friendly solutions. “This certification also underscores our proactive action plan, which we are committed to implementing over the next three years, to support our ambition to combine technological innovation and environmental responsibility,” she added.
