BAE Systems, Repkon USA Sign Pact on Ammunition Manufacturing

British multinational BAE Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding with turnkey complete production plant provider Repkon USA to develop and manufacture advanced munitions. The two companies will also explore ways to enhance the range, precision and performance of ammunition.

To achieve the agreement’s objective, BAE and Repkon will bring their expertise and experience to simplify and accelerate efforts in scaling up several solutions, including propellants and explosives.

BAE Systems supplies the British armed forces with ammunition, ranging from small arms to artillery shells. To meet increasing demand, the defense contractor recently expanded its 155 mm ammunition manufacturing capability after a significant investment.

Steve Cardew, business development director at BAE Systems Land, highlighted the timing of the collaboration amid rising instability worldwide. “Industry’s ability to scale munitions production is an essential part of this, and by working together with others, we can better support our customers,” the executive said.

According to Repkon USA President Bryan Van Brunt, the collaboration provides his company’s customers access to the most advanced, next-generation technologies that “incorporate world-leading advanced manufacturing techniques.”

BAE Systems‘ 107,000-strong workforce and presence in over 40 locations allow it to power the defense needs of various governments. The British multinational recently secured a contract from Dutch shipyard Damen Naval to equip Colombia’s Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie frigate with the Bofors 40 Mk4 naval gun system.
