US Approves Major Arms Sales Worth Over $7B to Israel

The U.S. Department of State has approved two potential foreign military sales to Israel, amounting to over $7.4 billion. The first sale, valued at $6.75 billion, includes munitions, guidance kits, fuzes and related equipment. The second sale involves AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and equipment worth $660 million.

The larger sale includes 2,166 GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs, 2,800 MK 82 500-pound bomb bodies, 17,475 FMU-152A/B fuzes and various Joint Direct Attack Munition guidance kits. This package also includes bomb components, munitions support and equipment, and other logistical support. Meanwhile, the Hellfire sale includes 3,000 missiles and support equipment, training, software and engineering services.

The principal contractors for the munitions sale are Boeing, ATK Tactical Systems, L3Harris Fuzing and Ordnance Systems, and the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, while Lockheed Martin will manufacture the Hellfire missiles. Deliveries for the munition and missile package are slated for 2025 and 2028, respectively.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the potential deals will enhance Israel’s homeland defense capabilities and emphasize the United States’ commitment to Israel‘s security and align with its national interests.

The State Department approvals coincide with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington last week, where discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump and other officials focused on plans for a Gaza ceasefire and defense strategies against Iran.
