Milrem Robotics, EM&E Group and Thales Belgium have signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue defense robotics opportunities in the United Arab Emirates.
The agreement will initially focus on combining EM&E’s SECUTOR remote weapon station and Thales’ 70 mm rocket systems with Milrem’s THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle. Thales said the integration seeks to enhance THeMIS’ operational capabilities, particularly for counter-drone applications specific to the UAE. In addition to the integration project, the MOU establishes a framework for future joint ventures.
Milrem’s THeMIS UGV is a modular, tracked platform configurable for various defense tasks, including combat, intelligence and logistics support. Featuring a modular design, hybrid propulsion and artificial intelligence capabilities, the platform is currently used by 19 nations, including eight NATO members, and has been operationally deployed in Ukraine and Mali.
According to Milrem Robotics CEO Kuldar Väärsi, the partnership aims to address the evolving needs for robotic systems. “Through this partnership, we aim to drive innovation, strengthen regional security, and contribute to the UAE’s defense and technological capabilities,” the chief executive said.
This partnership follows Tallinn-based Milrem’s earlier announcement of collaborating with South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace on robotic combat vehicles. Under that MOU, the two companies will focus on improving RCV performance requirements and marketing the solutions to potential international customers.
