Lockheed Martin announced that its Australian unit has secured a one-year contract extension for sustainment support to the Aegis Combat System in the Royal Australian Navy’s Hobart-class guided missile destroyers.
The contract’s sustainment services up to the end of 2025 call for the company’s Sydney-based Aegis team to develop and coordinate the combat systems’ design and related equipment to maintain a coherent engineering baseline for the destroyers. Lockheed Martin Australia’s services also include system updates, alignments and material assessments.
Service Track Record
The extended contract’s service deliveries build upon the Lockheed unit’s continuous five-year support to RAN. Over the years, Lockheed Martin Australia has grown its Aegis maritime workforce to more than 140 personnel, supporting the Hobart-class destroyers and geared for servicing future Hunter-class frigates.
Warren McDonald, Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand chief executive, called the contract extension “a significant milestone” in the company’s commitment to supporting RAN and contributing to strengthening Australian defense capabilities. “Since 2020, we have had the privilege of working closely with the Navy to ensure operational readiness while steadily growing the Aegis industrial base. We look forward to building on that strong foundation with the Navy,” he added.
In addition to the Aegis sustainment, Lockheed Martin’s rotary and mission systems business is under a $300.94 million contract to provide software engineering and on-site support for the Australia Surface Combatant program for the modernization of three Hobart-class destroyers and the construction of Hunter-class frigates.
