Motorola Solutions Installs New Radio Communication System in German Frigate

Motorola Solutions has completed deploying the DIMETRA X Core Deployable digital radio communications system on the F124 Sachsen frigate, equipping the German Navy vessel with a secure voice and data communication solution to support operational readiness.

The mobile network solutions provider designed the new radio technology to meet the needs demanded by military, defense and security organizations. Motorola built the system to be flexible, allowing users to seamlessly work with other organizations on the same networks using agency partitioning.

DIMETRA X Core allows the German forces to easily install the new radio system on its existing infrastructure, enabling interoperability with other systems used across the armed forces. The MTP8550Ex TETRA radio is among the radio systems capable of working with DIMETRA X Core, enabling improved communication with the ship’s security teams, damage control forces and other personnel.

The German Sachsen-class frigate is the first ship to receive the Motorola solution under a $82.3 million 16-vessel contract awarded in 2021.

Axel Kukuk, vice president of sales at Motorola Solutions, highlighted the growing importance of secure, reliable radio communication on the modern battlefield.

“The new system empowers the German Navy to share real-time information between personnel for greater efficiency in routine missions and critical responsiveness during emergencies, such as fires or hull breaches,” he said.
