Nokia and EDGE Group subsidiary KATIM have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on secure telecommunications networks for defense and mission-critical applications in the United Arab Emirates.
Under the agreement, Nokia and KATIM will collaborate on developing and providing military 5G and portable 5G solutions that meet stringent security and reliability requirements for the UAE’s critical defense needs.
“This collaboration brings together KATIM’s expertise in ultra-secure communications with Nokia’s technological leadership,” said KATIM CEO Didier Pagnoux, who signed the MoU during the International Defence Exhibition & Conference in Abu Dhabi with Nokia Vice President of Middle East Mobile Networks Mohamed Samir.
Samir added that with these strengths combined, the two companies will work “to deliver world-class secure networks that enhance national security and operational effectiveness.”
“A big thank you to Didier Pagnoux and the entire KATIM team for their trust and support. We’re looking forward to working together to drive innovation and strengthen the resilience of secure communications,” he said in LinkedIn post.
Also at IDEX 2025, KATIM, which falls under EDGE’s space and cyber technologies cluster, signed an agreement with Australian firm Codan Communications to advance radio communication solutions. This collaboration entails the development and deployment of secure comms systems for modern operations.
Separately, EDGE business EPI, a provider of advanced precision engineering solutions, signed a letter of intent with Lockheed Martin to explore opportunities in various defense domains to support the UAE’s industrial growth and defense capabilities.
