BAE Systems Hagglunds will equip its Combat Vehicle 90, or CV90, with Saab’s sighting and fire control system under a supply contract valued at about $65 million.
In its announcement of the deal with BAE Systems’ Swedish unit on Tuesday, Saab said the equipment called UTAAS, short for Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System, is a modular construction designed for both land and aerial targeting.
Carl-Johan Bergholm, Saab’s senior vice president and head of Business Area Surveillance, said the company specifically developed the system for the CV90, which is “now in high demand” among military forces worldwide. “To meet the increased demand, we have strengthened our production capacity,” he added.
BAE Expansion in Europe
In September, the Nordic region construction company NCC announced that it secured a contract worth approximately $52 million to build a new production facility for BAE Systems Hagglunds. The work is expected to be completed in 2026.
CV90 production received a boost from new supply contracts on the combat vehicle totaling $2.5 billion Denmark and Sweden awarded BAE Systems in December.
Besides the CV90 program, BAE Systems has tapped Saab to supply multiple Giraffe 4A radar systems to U.S. Air Forces in Europe under a $48 million contract, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2027. In January, Saab also secured a contract worth $72.5 million to replace Sweden’s coastal anti-ship missile units with the company’s truck-mounted missile system, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026.
