Maritime industry veteran Ronny Opsjon Langset has joined Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace as executive vice president for the Norwegian defense company’s naval surface ships business.
Langset will report to Eirik Lie, president of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, as part of the senior management team. In his new role, he will oversee the company’s key initiatives in the naval market, including collaborating with the Norwegian Navy on designing and producing a standardized vessel. He will lead Kongsberg’s naval office in Alesund, a maritime cluster on Norway’s west coast. The location was established in 2024 to expand the company’s presence in the naval market in collaboration with Kongsberg Maritime and Kongsberg Discovery.
Lie emphasized the timing of Langset’s addition to the company’s leadership team as Oslo focuses on enhancing its naval capabilities.
“Norway’s long-term defense investment plan includes a groundbreaking investment in the navy, featuring large-scale construction projects for up to 28 new standardized vessels,” the chief executive said. “The industry is ready to take on these initiatives, which will generate significant employment opportunities along the entire Norwegian coast.”
Langset is coming to Kongsberg from Vard Langsten in Tomrefjord, Norway. His previous work also included stints at Aker Yards Electro, Pratt & Whitney and Braathens.
