Netherlands Taps Raytheon to Replenish Its Patriot Air Defense System in $529M Deal

RTX subsidiary Raytheon has secured a $529 million contract to supply the Netherlands with a Patriot air and missile defense system fire unit and associated equipment, replenishing the unit it donated to Ukraine.

The contract, executed through direct commercial sales, includes a fire unit consisting of radar, launchers, command and control stations, and additional support gear. RTX said most of the work under the contract would be carried out in Andover, Massachusetts, and Huntsville, Alabama.

Pete Bata, senior vice president of Global Patriot at Raytheon, highlighted the company’s commitment to enhancing Amsterdam’s integrated air and missile defense capabilities. “The Netherlands’ investment in Patriot underscores regional security and deterrence across Europe,” he said.

In August 2024, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency awarded Raytheon a $478 million contract to deliver guidance-enhanced Patriot missiles to Germany, aimed at restocking the country’s donation to Ukraine.

The Patriot system is a long-range, high-altitude, all-weather defense system designed to counter advanced long-range cruise and tactical ballistic missiles, among other airborne threats. According to RTX, the ground-based system currently serves as the foundation of air defense for 19 countries.
