Lockheed Martin has named Jonathon Wells as vice president of the company’s mission systems and weapons unit. Wells announced his appointment in a LinkedIn post on Monday.
In his new role, Wells will lead a team responsible for launching systems, airborne mission systems, counter-unmanned aerial systems and the United Kingdom integrated systems business, catering to a wide range of customers.
The Lockheed executive recently served as the defense company’s vice president for program management, a position he held for over two years. Before joining Lockheed Martin, he established a medical laser business focused on developing neuroprosthetic devices and microsurgical lasers.
“I want to express my appreciation to the Lockheed Martin colleagues I have partnered with over the last decade on the Training and Logistics Solutions team. Although I am leaving a great team behind, I look forward to the innovation and growth ahead with a talented MSW team as we push the boundaries of what is possible,” Wells said.
The new VP of mission systems and weapons holds a bachelor of science, a master’s of science and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. He also obtained a master’s of business administration from the University of Washington – Michael G. Foster School of Business.
