Leonardo Expands Agreement With Saudi Arabia to Advance Aerospace, Defense Tech

Italian defense company Leonardo has signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia, expanding a collaborative agreement to advance aerospace and defense technologies. The agreement was sealed during bilateral meetings between Italy and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Under the latest MOU, Leonardo will work with domestic businesses and other organizations in the Middle Eastern nation, including research institutions, end-users and technology partners.

The Italian multinational and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investments first signed an agreement in early 2024 to partner on several initiatives, including airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul, localization of electronic warfare technologies and helicopter assembly. Lorenzo Mariani, co-general manager at Leonardo, described the original agreement as an opportunity to grow its relationship with the kingdom and explore business opportunities.

The relationship between Leonardo and Riyadh started years ago, with the Italian defense contractor providing the Middle Eastern kingdom with essential components and systems for the energy, transportation and rescue sectors.

Saudi Arabia has been partnering with a long list of organizations for Vision 2030, an initiative that aims to reform the public sector, diversify the economy and empower businesses and citizens. Besides Leonardo, Parsons joined the kingdom’s Main and Ring Roads Program in early December to construct and upgrade roads.
