The New Zealand Army has appointed Lt. Col. Emily Hume to lead the 1st Command Support Regiment, or 1CSR, succeeding Lt. Col. Kate Hockings-Mackie.
Hume said that in her new role, she would focus on delivering Network Enabled Army capabilities for land-based operations, including modernized planning, intelligence and communications systems.
1CSR, an operational unit of the 1st (NZ) Brigade, is the New Zealand Army’s signals, intelligence and electronic warfare unit. It comprises four subunits scattered across the country and two reserve companies. “This spread of people will be a challenge but we will continue to explore ways to ensure that our people feel connected,” Hume said.
The new 1CSR chief started her service in 2005 and was commissioned as an officer in 2008. She has since held command roles and was involved in various deployments, including Lebanon, the Solomon Islands and South Sudan.
Hume’s appointment coincided with Warrant Officer Class One Missy Greig taking over as the command’s regimental sergeant major.
