BAE Systems subsidiary Bohemia Interactive Simulations has partnered with Rheinmetall to develop advanced simulation technologies for the defense industry. Their collaboration will initially focus on the Heavy Weapons Carrier project, where BISim will use its VBS4 and Blue IG software products to create a modern combat training solution for the German Army’s Medium Forces.
BISim’s VBS4 is a comprehensive virtual desktop training and simulation host that allows military services to design and execute a variety of military training scenarios. The system can be integrated with Blue IG, a high-performance 3D image generator that adheres to the CIGI standard.
According to BISim President Rahul Thakkar, his company’s modeling and simulation technology provides warfighters with “unmatched confidence to enable decision dominance on the battlefield.”
Among the nations that use this technology is the New Zealand Defence Force, which awarded BISim a VBS4 contract in August to support its development and implementation of military training programs.
Bartek Panasewicz, head of system technology training systems at Rheinmetall, said the partnership with BISim enhances his company’s offerings in training and simulation solutions. “With the state-of-the-art software from Bohemia Interactive Simulations, we are able to offer our customers even more realistic and effectively customized solutions,” he added.
Additionally, Rheinmetall is collaborating with Hologate, a media company in Munich, Germany, to create tools that combine their expertise to deliver the latest in warfighter training technologies. Hanno Tabeling, head of system technology for driving simulation at Rheinmetall, said the first tangible result of that collaboration is the development of a VR driving simulator for training military drivers.
