The United Kingdom’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has opened the Group Cyberspace Collaboration Centre, a space under the agency’s portfolio of digital and cyber capabilities.
“The GCCC is further enhancing our collective ability to keep us safe, secure, resilient and sustainable in cyberspace, enabling us to work together more closely means we can defend as one, benefiting the collective security of the individual organizations we serve,” said NDA CEO David Peattie.
Located in Herdus House in Cumbria, the GCCC will allow NDA partners to use the building to explore innovative solutions and conduct cyber exercises and training to protect British nuclear facilities from various threats. The launch of the new location follows the opening of a joint Cyber Security Operations facility in Warrington in August.
Office for Nuclear Regulation Superintending Inspector Warren Cain applauded the NDA’s continued commitment to improve the country’s cyber posture. “Cybersecurity is a key regulatory priority for the Office for Nuclear Regulation, and we welcome the NDA’s commitment to strengthen their cyber defenses with this new specialist facility,” the official said.
Apart from the GCCC, the NDA digital and cyber portfolio includes the Cyber Lab classroom at Energus, the Sellafield Engineering Centre of Excellence and the Robotics and AI Collaboration Centre.
