ST Engineering Forms Partnership for Armored Vehicle Development in Kazakhstan

ST Engineering has partnered with Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering to establish local manufacturing capability for a new 8×8 amphibious armored vehicle in Kazakhstan.

The collaboration, which will support the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, will include engineering and technical services for the production of the vehicle based on ST Engineering’s Terrex infantry fighting vehicle. Revealed at this year’s Singapore Airshow, the Terrex IFV’s latest iteration, the Terrex s5, features advanced multimission crew stations, smart power management, integrated multidomain connectivity and onboard diagnostics. Its name stands for its five capabilities: smartness, superiority, sustainability, survivability and serviceability.

Kok Ann Lim, president of ST Engineering’s Land Systems division, said the partnership signals the Singapore defense firm’s entry into the Central Asian market. “We look forward to a successful collaboration with KPE and we are confident that the new platform will meet the operational needs of its users,” he added.

According to KPE Chairman Aibek Baryssov, the facility’s capacity to produce 500 armored vehicles annually and its localization and scientific research expertise will help fulfill the Kazakhstani military’s requirements. KPE currently produces the Arlan, Alan, Nomad and Barys wheeled vehicles and personnel carriers.

Production of the new armored vehicle is set to commence in Kazakhstan in 2025.
