U.S. tech company NVIDIA is set to open a research and development facility in Vietnam focused on exploring the use of artificial intelligence in software development.
The Vietnam Research and Development Center, to be built with support from the Vietnamese government, aims to benefit from the nation’s extensive pool of STEM talent and ecosystem of AI-focused startups. Work at the new location will create new solutions to help NVIDIA and its partners promote AI innovation.
According to NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, setting up in Hanoi will help boost the Southeast Asian nation’s development of AI. “With our expertise in AI development, we will partner with a vibrant ecosystem of researchers, startups and enterprise organizations to build incredible AI right here in Vietnam,” he said.
AI-Focused Investments
The facility is part of NVIDIA’s growing AI-related investment in Vietnam. The software and fabless company has been collaborating with over 100 startups and 65 educational institutions for the NVIDIA Inception program, designed to help new companies accelerate their growth using innovative technologies.
“The government of Vietnam is focused on innovation as one of the key elements of its development strategy,” said Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. “With this strategic partnership, the Vietnamese government and NVIDIA are committed to jointly promoting the strong development of AI technology in Vietnam and creating a bright future for the innovation ecosystem and high-tech industry in Southeast Asia.”
NVIDIA is one of the companies participating in the U.S. Department of State’s Partnership for Global Inclusivity on AI program, which aims to advance the development of emerging technology in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
