U.S. defense solutions manufacturer L3Harris Technologies and aircraft maker Airbus Helicopters are collaborating to install electro-optical/infrared sensor systems into Germany’s new Airbus H145M helicopters.
L3Harris said the WESCAM MX-15D sensor technology is an ideal solution for a wide range of missions, including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, covert intelligence, and target designation. Its high-precision and high-sensitivity multi-spectral sensors offer warfighters an advantage on the battlefield, making it ideal for day and night operations.
According to Tom Kirkland, vice president and general manager of targeting and sensor systems at L3Harris, the company is proud to take part in the milestone delivery to fulfill the German armed forces’ needs. “This integration marks an exceptional step forward for L3Harris on the international stage, integrating our advanced and reliable imaging systems on a leading air combat platform,” he said.
The new sensor systems order is expected to benefit from L3Harris’ newly opened WESCAM Authorized Service Center in Italy. The 5,500-square-meter facility offers advanced testing and repair capabilities to serve its customers in the region.
