BAE Systems will supply Denmark and Sweden with new CV90 combat vehicles under new contracts totaling $2.5 billion.
The agreements fall under a trilateral framework involving the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration. Denmark will acquire 115 CV9035MkIIIC vehicles while Sweden’s order comprises 50 vehicles. The contracts also encompass vehicles for Ukraine funded by both governments and provisions for spares, logistics and training support.
Improved Situational Awareness
The CV9035MkIIC variant will be equipped with a new turret and built to the same standard as the upgraded CV90 infantry fighting vehicles designed for the Royal Netherlands Army. Upgrades to the Dutch CV9035 vehicles include an enhanced active protection system, an anti-tank guided missile and an electro-optic aiming system.
According to Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds, which manufactures the CV90, the new model will feature improved situational awareness, mobility, protection and lethality.
European Deployment
This latest development builds on BAE Systems’ previous projects with Denmark and Sweden.
In February, the defense firm and DALO signed a $400 million agreement to repair and maintain the Danish Army’s CV90 units. Stockholm also previously ordered new CV90s to replace the units donated to Ukraine.
BAE Systems has delivered 1,900 CV90 vehicles globally, with deployment in 10 European nations.
