French avionics firm Safran Electronics & Defense will work with Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency to advance its armed forces’ emerging defense technologies and capabilities.
In a press release posted Tuesday, the company said the new memorandum of understanding with DSTA will center on enhancing the performance of an unnamed weapon control system using a decision support tool to accelerate the engagement response time when dealing with emerging and asymmetric threats.
DSTA Chief Executive Chad-Son Ng said the Safran collaboration allows both organizations to combine their diverse expertise. “Through this partnership, we will accelerate technological advancement and co-develop innovative solutions to counter emerging threats,” he said.
Franck Saudo, president of Safran Electronics & Defense, highlighted the cooperation’s impact on improving Singapore’s defense capabilities amid an evolving threat landscape. “In conjunction with advancements in target identification, the development of sophisticated decision support algorithms plays a pivotal role in modern defense. We are proud to take on this challenge alongside DSTA,” he said.
The MOU is not the first collaborative effort between Safran and Singapore. In 2023, both agreed to cooperate on improving the defense technology capabilities of the Singaporean Armed Forces, exploring potential uses of smart technologies in military operations and building local talent development programs.
